Ruby-red colour, with low effervescence. A very full and soft bouquet, with aromas of ripe raspberry, boysenberry, and dark plum fruit.
Fine, expressive, pure with minerality. Profound with a subtleness, spicy, fruit-driven with a herbal edge giving definition to the fine red cherry fruit.
Robust with evident notes of red flowers on the nose. The palate will enjoy significant acid and strong, long, earthy finish.
Pronounced intensity of raspberry, cherry, and prune. Fruit characters on the nose, with complex earthy notes of spice and licorice. The palate is full-bodied with fine, soft tannins and well-balanced acidity. Soft raspberry and wild berry fruits give way to a long, smooth, spicy finish.
An expression of a single grape variety.
A deep violet colour. On the nose, exuberant aromas of gum cistus and wild basil with hints of orange blossom. Intense and complex on the palate, showing layers of wild blueberries combined with fresh resinous and spicy notes ending in a long juicy finish. Aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year French oak casks. Serve at room temperature (16-18 ºC).
Made by two Masters of Wine, Giles Cooke and Fergal Tynan, this Barossa Grenache is imported into NZ by a third MW, Stephen Bennett. The style uses ripe, voluptuous Barossa fruit to make a Burgundy style wine, with small batches in open-top fermenters, hand-plunged and matured in old oak. Giles Cooke says he’s looking for “vitality, energy, aromatics and texture” and we might add beauty to that list. A thrilling wine of perfume and power, it hides its 15% alcohol amazingly well, but the power is undeniable.
Almost liqueur-like in its intensity of cherry fruit and raspberry, hints of wild herbs, florals and spice.
Very rich and full bodied but not heavy in any way, the wine is really quite pretty, with fine tannins and spice calling to mind a bigger version of a Central Otago Pinot. Stylish and very versatile with food, the Thorny Devil will surprise and delight you through to 2021.
